In an English Garden - in August (II)
Above left, another fine "daisy" with bronze leaves. Right pink Achillea (Yarrow).
Below left, Caryopteris "Worcester Gold". This is a small shrub with yellowish leaves (not so yellow in this picture) and blue flowers in August-September. It needs cutting back in the winter and I don't think that it is particularly long lived.
Below right, one of my favourites, a shrubby mexican Salvia, I think this one is grahamii. It's a real favorite, starting to flower from June until the frosts. It's foliage smells of fruit and it needs to be kept going but taking cuttings, as the plants become leggy and open after a few years.
Above Hydrangea villosa, one of my favourite shrubs in the garden. Usually it gets frosted, or isuffers from drought here, but this year the weather was kind to it. I grow it here in part shade so it is not quite as compact as it could be, but even so it is a wonderful plant, with big hairy leaves and heads of lilac flowers that last into the autumn.
