In an English Garden - in October/November (I)
Left, one of the South African Nerines flowering in the walled garden at Wisley. This one is Nerine bowdenii Mark Fenwick x Glencoe. Below another Nerine, Nerine bowdenii "Smee". I have had a Nerine in the garden for many years, but never a flower, the situation is too shady now.
Above right, Aconitum volubile a climbing Monkshood. I would imagine like many of its relatives it is highly poisonous to humans, ibut I can't help thinking that the plant would be better served if it was toxic to snails which savage it mercilously some years. Left one of the common cotoneasters caught by flash.
Below, the first of a series continued on the next page of autumn colour from trees and shrubs..This one is one of the spindles, Euonymous alatus.
