"Red" Phalaenopsis Hybrids
A true red Phal is something of a holy grail in Phal breeding. I have a few here that aren't at the cutting edge but are nice anyway.
Left, Phal Cordova "Burgundy". I have had to play around with the colour balance of the picture to get this right. I think when I got it the original flowers were much darker and more burgundy, in this pic it looks decidedly pink! I've been told that light has a major effect on the reds. Some are basically yellow with a purple overlay, in poor light the yellow colouration is weaker and you get a less intense pinker tone. It's coming into spike again which will be the first re-flowering, I wonder what colour it will be this time?
Right, not a very good picture of Dpts Abed Nego "First Blood". I picked this more for it's habit and flower shape. It also has a satin finish to the flower rather than a glossy waxy appearence of many of the Phals. Understated but rather cute!
