White Phalaenopsis Hybrids
With some of these plants I've had a bit of a debate with myself as to whether they should go into other categories, the ones I have here have white as their ground colour and have about 50% of the petals as white.
Left, Phal Lil Johnson. Although I'm not a fan of the standard white Phals this one struck me as being a bit different. The lower petals are suffused with pale yellow and it has a fascinating tawny striped lip. I found out that it is a hybrid of Phal stuartiana which is responsible for this different look. I also saw in the garden centre that some of the roots had rotted (due to over watering). I decided to take a chance  but later found it had no live roots. It's taken 18 months after a total repot to get into into bud again, and I'll think it will be a while before it totally recovers but it's been a valuable lesson in patience!
Left, an unknown Phal taken at Wisley Gardens. Right, my Phal Brother Princess. This always reminds me of a rather sinister starfish. I understand it's a Phal gigantea hybrid. The "Brother" in the name of the plant (and many other Phals) relates to the Brother nursery (in Taiwan?) and indicates that the cross was registered by them. (Although anyone can make the same cross and give it the same name, so the name does not mean that the plant came from the Brother nursery)
Left, Phal Brother Rico Sweetheart  taken at Wisley Gardens.
Left, Phal Miva Kitsch, again taken  at Wisley Gardens.
